While the Libertarian National Committee is aware of the existance of this site, they provide no funding for the maintenance of this site nor do they hold any position of responsibility or decision regarding the use of this site. Funding for the development and management of portions of this site is provided by various Libertarian State Parties as well as campaigns and other sources as permitted by federal election law and related state election laws.
State parties may elect to join in this project by meeting a minimal set of criteria. If your state is not actively participating in this project we ask you to contact them and find out why. If you are a state party official and wish to know what the criteria is, please ask either your state party chairman or membership chairman to contact IVO.Net, LLC for information.
State parties that are involved control the access to the information pertaining to their state. You must be validated by your state party in order to access the voter files and other information relevant to your state and to active campaigns within it.
As a volunteer, you will be able to assist with projects ranging from "get out the vote" calls as elections draw near, identifying likely Libertarian voters, and even polling!
Even if your state isn't actively involved in this project, you, as a Libertarian Activist, can volunteer your time to assist with campaigns in other areas of the country.
My state or local party told me to come to this site, what do I do?
If you have been referred to this site by either your state or local party then they are expecting your registration. Simply click on the "register" link above, then fill in the required information. The person who referred you to the site will see your pending registration the next time that they log in and should validate your account. You may then access the site services that they allow you access to.
I'm a Libertarian who found this site, but I'm not active in my local or state party at all
We strongly recommend visiting the Libertarian Party Website. There isn't anything useful on this site if you aren't active in the party or a campaign. The National Party website has all sorts of interesting information about the Party of Principle, as well as contact information and links to each of the fifty state party websites. (We also personally recommend viewing the Politician Removal Service -- it is worth the visit alone!)
I'm a party officer and I'm concerned about security. How secure is this system?
Good question. We won't bore you with stupid claims of having a system that is impervious to hackers. But this system IS running a proprietary system that includes the application code, the toolkit and even the actual web server itself. It is not running on a Microsoft platform and it is not running Apache or any other open source web server! (For you technical wizards: the system is running FreeBSD and the IVO web server on a dedicated system with only secure ssh access. It is a 100% dynamic application, developed in Perl, which is considered by most developers to be one of most secure and stable languages)
Ok, but can other states see my information?
No. This site is, in reality, fifty-one (including the District of Columbia) separately secured data areas managed under one security system with multi-state access ONLY for national campaigns. The security system is an "enterprise level" system with multiple separations of authorization and verification of data. Detailed access logs are kept of all activity.
I'm an infiltrator from another party. How do I sneak in and steal all the LP secrets?
Well...we won't tell you how to steal secrets. And obviously if you try to there are laws in most states covering this type of crime. Since the information in this system is the property of the Libertarian National Committee as well as the various state parties, you may be subject to prosecution in several jurisdictions. For example, in the State of South Carolina you would be subject to a potential felony conviction and face a $50,000 fine and 5 years in prison. (We use this example since the software running this system was developed in South Carolina and if we can't get you prosecuted somewhere else we'll have you tried here!)
You can certainly register and peek around inside, but you won't see anything interesting unless you are validated. Even then (assuming you've fooled someone at the local level) you can only get to the information accessible by your local party. They can't give you access to anything not pertaining to their party.
